Wednesday 12:00 (d) Pimp My Tutorial

Audience: All
Technical Level: Low

At Seattle University School of Law, both the IT department and the Library are using Captivate to create online demonstrations and simulations. In this session we’ll talk about how easy it is to create Flash based e-learning tools that support faculty, staff, and students. The session will include examples of the range of tutorials that can be made using this user-friendly software, ranging from simple how-to demonstrations to branching simulations that allow users to master skills through interactivity. For IT professionals, Captivate allows the creation of specific learning modules, saving staff time and resources (i.e., Captivate tutorials have replaced brown-bag training sessions that no one attends). The Library has used Captivate to create point of need tutorials that demonstrate basic library skills, and to teach legal research in an online, asynchronous class. Captivate integrates into course management software as well as Adobe Connect, making it a surprisingly powerful pedagogical instrument.
